Lava Bowl

During a period at the European Ceramic Work Centre in 1993, Annelies de Leede researched ceramics recycling. This led her to design her first bowls made of clay containing a high component of ‘lava’ grains – bits of ceramic scrap material. Adding lava grains to the clay allowed the bowls to be heated at high temperatures without cracking or breaking. It is even possible to utilise bigger fragments, with beautiful visual effects. This new kind of clay was further developed by Goods in conjunction with Royal Tichelaar Makkum. The Lava Bowls are a massive 2 cm thick yet sound like fine porcelain when tapped.
